There are very few career positions for film composition. In any event, it is a graduate school subject and the University of Southern California and probably NYU are the best graduate schools for it.

You would need an undergraduate major in music composition. It you are a Louisiana resident and funds are an issue, LSU might work out.

I am not aware that LSU has a national reputation for music composition. If you are not a Louisiana resident, check out your state university and also Indiana University and USC if the program is not available at your state university.

Successful completion of the undergraduate major in music composition at USC will guarantee admission to its graduate program for film composition. If you are accepted at USC, it will probably provide a financial package which will enable you to attend.

Some of the best undergraduate programs in composition require the submission of a portfolio of work that you have composed as part of the admission process.
